Howdy, cooking masters.
Today I present to you some of the best street food in a beautiful country known as Netherlands. Netherlands is a country located in Western Europe, and over 17 million people are proud to say they live there.
With the street food I am about to present to you, it's 100% guaranteed Dutch people are never hungry.
This post will be divided in two: first, a list of typical Dutch food, and second, a list of typical Dutch places where you can eat.
Herring
Hollandse nieuwe haring (name used only between the months of May and July) or simply Herring, is a typical Dutch food served raw. Traditionally, it’s eaten holding the fish up by the tail, raising it above your head and letting it slide into your mouth. It can also be eaten in slices.
Koffie Verkeerd
From a lunch/dinner served food to a morning served coffee, the Koffie Verkeerd (or “wrong coffee", in English) can be ordered at any cafe or restaurant in Netherlands. This is a typical Dutch version of a caffè latte, containing a lot of warm milk. The preference goes to an expresso served with a lot of steamed milk and some froth. Usually it’s served with a little cookie.
Manneken Pis
Damrak 41, 1012 LK Amsterdam, Netherlands
Website: mannekenpis.nl
Manneken Pis is a restaurant for its famous Flemish fries (similar to the type sold in Belgium), actually made from Dutch potatoes. Located in Damrak, Amsterdam, it has 20 different sauces to put in the fries, such as ketchup, BBQ sauce, mustard and cheddar cheese. Usually it’s eaten with mayonnaise.
FEBO de Lekkerste
60 shops all over Netherlands (22 in Amsterdam)
Website: febodelekkerste.nl
FEBO is a Dutch staple similar to a vending machine. How does it work? First, you must decide what type of food you would like to try. Then, you insert the appropriate amount of coins into the wall and grab the food you previously selected. You can also order at the counter. The FEBO also offers cheese soufflés, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, chicken wings and fries. To end this order confusing reality to a dream, try ice cream or a milkshake, fresh and creamy.
According to David Farley, the best place to eat is FEBO. The worse food was Herring. Visiting the country and finding out by yourself would be an excellent idea. Hope you enjoyed Netherlands’ street food.
Until then, a better post is coming, next time.
